Teacher Self-Care Tips

Ah, the end of the school year - with late nights and piles of student papers, submitting supply lists and grades, planning and processes, reseting your finances, and more - the end of the school year can be a stressful time for all educators and education staff. We’re here to help make that a little easier with a few tips and easy, low-impact ways to drop those shoulders just a smidge and take five for you.

Check out our self-care homework list below:

  1. Unplug and Recharge: Take a break from emails, lesson planning, and grading. Set boundaries for screen time and allow yourself to fully disconnect from work-related activities.

  2. Get Outside: Spend time outdoors and soak up that sweet sunshine. Whether it's going for a walk, lounging in the park, or gardening, fresh air can do wonders for your mental and physical well-being. One of our favorite things to do is get creative outside — make a fun and scented still-life sketch with some Scentos markers to engage your senses and embrace the foliage!

  3. Read for Fun: Dive into books that you enjoy, not just those related to your profession! Whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or a guilty pleasure novel, reading for pleasure can be a relaxing escape. If you are a margin-marker, check out our Scentos Mini Gel Pen Set — perfect to stash in a bag and carry with you on the go to make those annotations as you read!

  4. Practice Mindfulness: Take time for mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga. These activities can help reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and promote overall relaxation.

  5. Pamper Yourself: Treat yourself to a spa day at home or indulge in small luxuries like a bubble bath, facial mask, or DIY manicure/pedicure. Taking care of your physical well-being can help you feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

  6. Explore Hobbies: Rediscover old hobbies or explore new ones that bring you joy. Whether it's abstract doodling (our gel pens are SO smooth and relaxing), painting, cooking, photography, or playing a musical instrument, hobbies can provide a creative outlet and a sense of fulfillment. Since many of you are passionate about the arts, we highly suggest allowing yourself some free time to create however your heart desires -- no school parameters allowed!

  7. Connect with Loved Ones: Spend quality time with family and friends. Whether it's a backyard barbecue, game night, sending a greeting card, or a simple coffee date, nurturing relationships can provide support and connection.

  8. Stay Active: Incorporate physical activity into your routine, whether it's going for a bike ride, taking a fitness class, or practicing yoga. Exercise not only benefits your physical health but also boosts mood and energy levels.

  9. Eat Well: Nourish your body with healthy and delicious foods. Experiment with new recipes or treat yourself to your favorite summer fruits and vegetables. Eating well can help you feel more energized and vibrant. Here’s an amazing (and amazingly easy!) recipe for Unicorn Bark that’s a cool, colorful, magical, summery healthy treat. (We like to add frozen fruit!)

  10. Reflect and Set Intentions: Take time to reflect on the past school year, acknowledging your successes and areas for growth. Set intentions for the upcoming year, focusing on what you want to achieve professionally and personally.

Remember, self-care is essential for maintaining balance and overall well-being, especially after a busy school year. Prioritize yourself this summer and enjoy the well-deserved break!
